# Inventory components

> Review the raw ad-server inventory that becomes products buyers can discover.

An **inventory component** is the raw material your ad server exposes — ad
units, placements, avails, and related inventory detail — before it is packaged
for sale. Components come from a connected ad-server inventory source when it
syncs; they are discovered rather than authored, and are not directly sellable
on their own.

In **Inventory Components**, accept components you want available for product
authoring, hide ones you do not want to use, or remap a component when its
publisher, property, or placement needs correction. These decisions prepare the
inventory you select from when you create a product; they do not alter the
source inventory in your ad server.

The Merchandising Agent uses accepted components when it composes products at
discovery. Review mappings before creating products so the agent starts with
the inventory and representation you intend to sell.
